Printing on Gore-Tex

Can you print on Gore-Tex?

People working in many different industries use work clothes made from Gore-Tex. This can be used to create comfortable clothing because it offers long-lasting waterproofing, is super breathable and completely windproof, and also keeps you warm. This can also make the entire transfer printing process harder because the material was made to “repel”, though it’s not impossible. Below, we take a look at how you should proceed to ensure a perfect application of your heat transfer on Gore-Tex clothing.

How do I apply a heat transfer to Gore-Tex?

First, we recommend heating the item of clothing to 160⁰C or 130⁰C, depending on which of our products you want to apply. To do this, press the heating plate directly onto the item for 8-10 seconds. This shrinks and stabilises the item ahead of the heat transfer, creating the best possible conditions for a correct heating process.

  1.  Place your decal on the item of clothing where you want to apply it and make sure that the entire area that the heating plate is pressed onto is flat and free from zips, pockets and other bumps.
  2. Check that your heat press is configured correctly for the product and under plate you have selected.
  3. Begin applying your heat transfer.
  4. Then remove the transfer carrier once the application is completed.

ATTENTION! Applying a heat transfer to Gore-Tex clothing that hasn’t been pre-heated can produce poor results and in the worst-case may destroy the item of clothing.

TIP!

Heat the item by pressing the heating plate directly onto it for 8-10 seconds before applying the transfer. This will make the fibres in the clothing contract, giving you the best possible chances of a successful application.
